Film review of Nautanki Saala.

Remake of old bollywood films,as well as films of other languages is a quite common trend today. While mostly in bollywood,we come across remakes of old tamil and telugu as well as some english movies,it is for the first time a rare case has happened, that a bollywood movie is inspired from a french film.Director Rohan Sippy has taken the trend or remaking further,by making "Nautanki Saala",which may be regarded as the desi adaptation of french comedy "Apres Vous(2003)".Although inspired, but still the movie holds it's foot quite strong in concept, acting as well as music. Ayushmann Khurana, the lead actor, has also sung a song for
the movie.Overall, the movie is definitely a one time watch.

Now,starting with the review of the movie,I would like to focus on a few points:

Title - The movie is based on buddy bonding and friendship of two people,so depicted as the lead characters of the movie. The location of this movie is mainly a theatre, where a play of Ramayan is being executed daily, and RP(Ayushmann) is the director of this play. So,location wise, the play forms the main basis
of the movie.Besides,it is shown in the movie, that our life is also a play, where we each play a different character.Always the play does not have happy ending, characters submerge into each other, but still the show goes on.Hence, the title is justified.

Story line - The story begins with RP(Ayushmann),the lead character, narrating his story to a mental consultant, about how he had saved a stranger from suicide one night and brought him home, and then how his helpful nature landed him in trouble. Finally,he lost everyone starting from his girlfriend, the girl he fell in love with as well as his newly turned best friend(the man whom he saved from suicide). The story line has a pretty good concept and the sequence of scenes changes in a logical pattern. So,in a way the sequential story line establishes it's point.

Acting - Ayushmann Khurana, the lead actor plays the role of RP,a play director, helpful nature guy who saves a man from committing suicide and brings him home, finally, landing in deep trouble. He falls in love with a girl, while making her convince to re-establish her relation with her old boyfriend. The loving but hesitation  feeling which his character needed to portray onscreen, was successfully exhibited by him.
Kunal Roy Kapoor, plays the role of Mandar, a guy who was about to commit suicide but was saved by RP.Later they became the best of best friends, but parted ways in the end.According to me,he could fulfill his role well enough.Specially,in the play performing scenes, where he acts to be a nerd, with no knowledge of acting, his expressions as well as performance were just stupendous.
Pooja,Gaelyn and Evelyn as newcomers, fulfill their criteria as fresh faces and it is their onscreen freshness also, that to some extent keeps the movie interesting.Overall, their acting was up to the mark but still there is a long way to go.
So,considering the acting of all the lead as well as supporting characters,I give them 6/10.

Music - The music of the movie is well enough. The pace of music is also maintained. The songs have a sufi domination along with punjabi lyrics in some of them. The music scores 7.5/10.

Points to be noted -

1)When Chitra(Gaelyn) threw the biriyani, out of the door, fresh from the cooking vessel,it should have been hot enough to cause burn. But,Mandar(Kunal) felt no heat.

2)For a play director, surviving somehow,it was illogical to show him buy a flower order worth Rs 25,000/-
just to have a minor enquiry.

So,keeping all these points in mind,I would rate the film 7/10.
