Film review of "Krrish 3"

Superhero movies were not being considered as a genuine subject for film making, even a few years ago. For a long instance of time i.e. from the mid nineties to about 10 years from that point of time, foreign superheroes like Batman, Spiderman, Superman had ruled the box-office charts as well as the cash registers in India. But slowly hence forth, the bollywood film makers and producers realized that this tradition needed a change. This change in their mindset gradually paved the milestone, for making a way towards the rise of the glamorous Indian superheroes like krrish and Ra-one.

Although, a large number of superhero movies like Toofan, Ajooba, Mr.India etc,had been made in the sixties and seventies, it was the TV series "Shaktimaan", which first introduced the concept of an Indian Superhero with extraordinary powers, in a grand scale. But Mr. Rakesh Roshan gets the special credit for introducing a glamorous superhero in the form of "Krrish", and that too through a costly bollywood movie i.e. in a much broader way.

The saga started with the movie "Koi Mil Gaya", an Indian adaptation of the famous 1982 science fiction movie "E.T-The Extra Terrestrial", directed by Steven Spielberg, which was released in 2003. It spawned two sequels namely "Krrish" and "Krrish 3". While the former movie deals with the origin and rise of "Krrish", the latter deals with the agenda of "krrish" and his never ending battle against the evil forces.

The movie released worldwide on 1st November,2013 and was declared "Blockbuster" in India in the first week itself, by Box-Office India.

Starting with the review:

Title: The movie takes the Krrish saga forward by demonstrating the agenda of our Indian Superhero "Krrish" and how he continuously battles against all evil forces to save the city from ruins and destruction and finally saves the day. However, there was a controversy about the title of the movie being "Krrish 2" or "Krrish 3" , as the previous installment was named "Krrish". But the controversy was cleared when the lead actor Hrithik Roshan confirmed in an interview to Rediff.com that the naming was done based on the "Rambo" franchise.

Trailer: The trailer of "Krrish 3" was released on You tube channel on 5th August,2013 and was immensely well received by the audience. It received more than 2.3 million views at You Tube within it's first day of release, surpassing the previous record held by "Jab Tak Hai Jaan". The trailer became the most watched Bollywood trailer on You Tube with 12 million views within two weeks, eclipsing the trailers of Hollywood block busters like "The Avengers" and "Thor". The trailer introduced Kangna Ranaut as a mutant with special powers, along with some other mutants too, which made the movie more interesting and attractive to watch.
However, according to my personal view, the trailer gave a hint of the clumsy, convoluted story line that the movie would show up. Besides that, the visual effects seemed more virtual than being real. So, overall, the trailer was moderately good.

Poster: The first look of "Krrish 3" was released on July,2013 and received positive enthusiastic response from the audience.

The main theatrical poster of the movie, released a few days prior to the release of the trailer, showed the main character in lead i.e. Krrish, surrounded by evil mutants and gave an impression of him saving the world, that will form the crux of the story.

The poster was successful in attracting masses to the movie theatres.

Marketing and Promotion: The release of the first look in July,2013, and the trailer and poster back to back in August,2013, was a very efficient promotional marketing strategy adopted by the authorized bodies. The teaser trailer was very positively received by the audience, and the press remarked positively to it, by concluding that the movie trailer echoed the feelings of Hollywood Block-Buster superhero movies like Batman, Superman etc.
For further promotion, a new video game of "Krrish" was launched, bearing all the characters of Krrish 3. Hand bands and watches bearing Krrish symbol were introduced and free samples were distributed among a few lucky kids. Besides that, a new website of Krrish 3 was also launched to provide relevant information.
The link to the website is: http://www.krrish-3.com/
The marketing strategy adopted by them was splendidly able to fulfill it's purpose.

Story Line: The story begins with Krrish (Hrithik), now an established superhero, saving the city during troubles. His father Rohit (Hrithik), a famous scientist, works in a well established laboratory. The other half of Krrish i.e. Krishna, is married to Priya Mehra (Priyanka) and they live happily. However, trouble arrives, when an evil genius named Kaal (Vivek) with special telekinetic powers, decides to release the virus of a deadly disease in India, to elaborate his business, as he only knows how to make the antidote, using his own blood. Kaal is a handicapped mutant, who searches for the bone marrow to cure him, and has created a team of mutants named as "Maanvars" i.e. hybrids of human and animals.
However,Rohit observes that the disease virus has no effect on him, krishna or the pregnant Priya, and then makes the antidote using Krishna's bloodstream. This angers Kaal, who sends out his mutants to find the truth. Thus begins a police and thief game between Krrish and Kaal's mutants. Krrish defeats Frogman, one of  Kaal's Mutants and saves Rohit from being taken away. But Priya is injured in the process and is taken to a hospital. In the hospital, Kaya (Kangna), another of Kaal's mutants, who can change forms, replaces Priya,by taking her form, and the original kidnapped Priya is taken as a hostage in to Kaal's laboratory.
Slowly, Kaya develops feelings for Krishna, and finally helps Krrish, to reach for the rescue of his father and wife. In a vicious battle, Krrish defeats all of Kaal's henchmen and finally defeats Kaal after a long tussle, thus proving that Good always triumphs over Evil.
The story line, according to me, is very much convoluted, clumsy and can be said to be a spoiled broth prepared by five or more writers, that cannot taste well enough.

Acting: Hrithik Roshan, in the dual role of the superhero Krrish and his child like father, Rohit, carries out his task well. However, during his acting for the character Rohit, he shows some typical mannerisms, which has come trend wise from "Koi...Mil Gaya". But,apart from that, his performance is notably praiseworthy.
Priyanka Chopra, in the role of Priya, the dedicated, loving, fashion seeking wife of Krishna/Krrish, does not have too much screen space to share and neither has an opportunity to portray much of her acting skills.
Kangna Ranaut, in the role of Kaya, a mutant, does her role well. At scenes, where she needed to show emotions, she has been partially successful.
Vivek Oberoi, in the role of "Kaal", has done a disastrous performance. Throughout the movie, his role was to sit on a moving wheel chair, and use his powers to control the surroundings. Although, he was given ample chances in this movie, to prove himself, he failed to do so.
Other supporting casts were partially up to the mark.

Music: The music composed by Rajesh Roshan, may be regarded as his worst performance. The songs are too long, too slow, and too rubbish to listen to. Every track seems to be boring and irritating, to a large extent and so why the audience response towards the music has also been very negative. Overall, the music gets a rating of 3/10 from me.

Duration: Apart from music, the pace and duration of the movie is also a negative factor that decreases the movie value. The film could be made shorter, narrower and up to the point, preventing the clumsy story line that resulted due to involvement of a large number of writers and script writers. The duration of the movie is too long, and the pace, although initially starts well, begins to loosen up as time travels. Thus, the duration and pace of the movie should also have been considered for improvement.

Overall, the movie gets a rating of 6.5/10.

Film review of "The Lunchbox"

Some unknown and undefined connections always exist among a few people in this extraordinary world. Only the media of communication keeps on changing as days pass by. Earlier it used to be pen friends, followed by social networking sites like Facebook, and Social messaging applications like Whats app that have taken the place. Yet people who don't know each other, may be connected just via a simple media of communication.
Written and directed by Ritesh Batra, this movie depicts a simple romantic budding love story of two people who don't know each other, but are linked through a series of letters.

Using the idea of Pen - friendship, the director has been able to implement the idea of love and romance flourishing among two unknowns, with the heavy stress and hustle of Mumbai life in back ground, very aesthetically.

The film was screened at International Critics' Week at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, and later won the Critics Week Viewers Choice Award also. It was shown at the 2103 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was released in India, U.S., and U.K. on 20th September, 2013 and did well at the box office. It has received over whelming positive reviews and responses from critics world wide.

Now,I would like to start with the film review of the movie:

Title: The main plot of the movie throws light on an undefined budding relationship that slowly emerges among two unknowns, who have never met each other. In a slow but steady manner, the movie shows how people living in fast paced cities like Mumbai, have to undergo violent stress in order to accomplish their work, but still find time to enjoy the beauty of love and essence of life. The connection between the two lead characters in this movie, is established using a series of letters kept inside a misplaced lunchbox from time to time. Hence, the title "Lunchbox" is accurately justified.

Poster: The main theatrical release poster shows the three lead characters of the movie, pursuing on their journey of life, entangling each other, along with a hint of love and affection prevalent among one or more of them.

Though the poster does not clearly imply about the main theme of the movie, but it is sufficient enough to attract sensible audience to the movie theatres. Thus, the poster in delivering it's purpose, is a success.

Story Line: The story line is based on a very unique idea of  a strong romantic bonding, slowly budding up between two unknown people developed through a series of letters, initiated by a misplaced lunchbox, and this forms the crux of the story. The story starts with a little throw of light on the Mumbai daily life and it's fast pace, and meanwhile the main characters are introduced slowly in a regular manner. The pattern of the so called dabba(Container/Lunchbox) service in Mumbai, delivered by the local dabbawalas(Delivery Boys) is then shown to the audience in a satirical way. The delivery boy commits a mistake by wrongly delivering the food container of a housewife, which was to be received by her husband, to an about to retire office employee, whom she doesn't even know. This mistake continues for many days, after which the house wife comes to know about it, and then tries to make contact with the unknown stranger(employee),by writing a letter to him and embedding it in the lunchbox, in order to get a feedback about the food that she cooks everyday for her husband, from him.The story line then takes a convoluted turn when it is revealed gradually that the housewife is unhappy with her life, and so is the employee with his life, due to him being a lonely widower.Gradually they begin to share their inner feelings with each other, and as time passes by, they fall in love. However, the story ends with a question mark, leaving it on the mental orientation and aspection of the audience to assume the ending.

Acting: Irrfan Khan, one of the most reputed powerhouse performers of Bollywood, has kept his reputation intact as per the defined standards, through his acting skills portrayed in this movie. Apart from some typical mannerisms common in his every movie, he has been able to bring out the character of a lonely widower seeking for love,as well as a budding lover, with great and clear confidence. He has been able to make the audience feel as if some real life incident is going on, and his character lively, through his acting.
Nimrat Kaur, in the role of an unhappy house wife, who longs for her husband's love, takes suggestions from her flatmate upstairs in order to charm her husband, and finally falls for a complete stranger, does justice to her role. In scenes, where she needed to show her emotional expressions with ease, she is mildly successful.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, as the irritating sub-employee as well as the caring friend, brings out his character lively again, thus maintaining his standards.
Other minor characters are also well portrayed by the respective actors. The cast selection gets a rating of 9/10 from me.

Music: The film does not have a large number of tracks. It is based on a hypothetical situation that may arise in real life,in a course of time, and so needs less or no songs to avoid making the script clumsy. One particular track of a song being sung by a tribal group in a Local train deserves special mention, not for lyrics but for it's originality and equivalence to real life.

Pace: The pace of the movie is too slow. The opening and closing of the lunchbox is shown too many times unnecessarily, thus making the audience feel bored. The movie could be made a little faster or better shorter by editing and removing a few irrelevant scenes.

Overall, the movie gets a rating of 7.5/10 from me.

The incredible Bruce Lee:A tribute to the legendary martial artist.

Martial Arts, the traditional system of Combat practice is widely spread across the world in various places and forms.Believed to have originated in ancient China, about 4000 years ago, during the Xia Dynasty,it has slowly and steadily spread it's wings to various parts of the world, including Europe and Asia.Derived from a Latin word,it generally means "Arts of Mars",where Mars is the Roman god of war.
Various forms of martial arts originating from various places, have slowly become the subject of interest of many people, spread across the globe, both for practicing and research purpose. The dominance of martial arts is also seen in the films and media industry, specially the Hong-Kong and Hollywood movie industries.
If we follow the recent trend, various martial artists and martial arts practitioners, have joined the film industry and are successful in establishing themselves as actors also.Scott Adkins,Jean Claudde Van Damme,Donnie Yen,Wesley Snipes,Yuen Biao,Sammo Hung,Cung Le,Don "The Dragon" Wilson,Mark Dacascos,Dolph Lungdren,Michael Jai White,Jason Statham and Matt Mullins are certain names from this never ending list.Jackie Chan, the famous actor, martial artist and stuntman who originated from Hong-Kong film industry, and made a timely crossover to Hollywood,is at present the highest earning actor in the world.
Female martial arts actresses like Moon Lee,Cynthia Rothrock,Cynthia Khan,Anna Ranoso,Lucy Liu and Tanit Phoenix have also proved their versatility in acting.
In Bollywood also, actors like Akshay Kumar,John Abraham,Hrithik Roshan,Vidyut Jamwal,Sushant Singh Rajput,Pooja Gupta,Neetu Chandra and Isha Koppikar are trained martial artists.

However,in this article,I would not like focus on the aspects of collaboration between Movies and Martial Arts, but would like to throw some light on the man,who was the first to collaborate them. The famous martial artist, who was the first to act in as well as direct movies of martial arts genre, and who was solely responsible for this innovative collaboration is none other than the legendary Bruce Lee.

Born on 27th November,1940,Bruce Lee,was a Chinese American martial Artist,Hong-Kong action film actor, martial arts instructor, philosopher and an occasional film maker. He is the founder of "Jeet Kune Do",a rigorous and hybrid form of martial arts, widely accepted throughout the world. He is widely considered by critics, media and other commentators to be the most influential martial artist of all time as well as a pop culture icon of the 20th Century. Some of his famous movies like Fist Of Fury(1972),Way Of The Dragon (1972),Enter The Dragon(1973) and The Game Of Death(1978) have a classical cult following. He had always portrayed Chinese Nationalism in his films.

Lee's father,Lee Hoi-Chuen was one of the leading film actors of that time. So,Lee grew up in a privileged environment. But in spite of that,Lee was involved in several street fights, which prompted his parents to get him trained in martial arts.Although, the initial beginning was slow, the largest influence that came on his learning of martial arts was the study of Wing-Chun Kung Fu,by the legendary teacher Yip Man.Slowly but steadily,Bruce lee, became very skilled in the art of Wing-Chun. However,he became involved in more and more street fights, which forced his parents to send him to San Francisco,U.S.A.

In March,1961,Lee had enrolled himself in the University Of Washington, where he met his future wife Linda Emery, and they married in 1964.

In 1967,after filming one season of "The Green Hornet",Lee found himself out of work, and opened the Jun Fan Institute Of Gung Fu. After a controversial match with Wong Jack Man,Bruce changed his philosophy on martial arts and founded "Jeet Kune Do",in order to improve his style of fighting and make it more fast and effective.

The details of the fight can be seen in book, entitled as "Showdown in Oakland".The following link may be helpful:

Although, the above fight is regarded as the most important fight in lee's life,Bruce lee had also been involved in a large number of other fights. He had defeated three times Hong-Kong inter school boxing champion via Knockout. In one of his fights,he had broken the arm of his opponent,as a result of which police had to be called. He had also defeated a judo expert,in just 11 seconds, with 15 punches and 1 kick.

The acting career of Lee,started with his role as "Kato",in the TV Series "The Green Hornet",alongside actor Van Williams.

He had also been the fight choreographer for many following films and had played small roles in others. However, not pleased with his roles in United States,he moved back to Hong-Kong,where he got his first break as the lead role in the movie "The Big Boss(1971)".The film was a major box-office success. Then following the success, more successful movies followed, establishing him as one of the most prominent lead actors of Hong-Kong.One of the most famous movie of lee was "Enter The Dragon",which was a major box-office success, breaking all previous records set by him.His last unfinished film was "Game Of Death".

On 26th July,1973,6 days before release of "Enter the Dragon",Bruce Lee died. The death of Bruce Lee is mysterious, and has been termed as "Death By Misadventure".Many theories were later speculated about his death, including a curse on his family,or a murder involving Triads,a Chinese underground crime society.Black Belt magazine concluded his death to be as a result of "The Touch Of Death",which he had received several weeks before his death.

Bruce Lee had always been a fitness enthusiastic and believed in regular practices to attain perfection. The following pictures demonstrate his fitness:

He was also a reputed philosopher. Some of his famous quotations are:

1)If you love life, don't waste time, for time is what life is made up of.

2)Mistakes are always forgivable,if one has the courage to admit them.

3)Knowledge will give you power, but character respect.

4)A quick temper will make a fool of you, soon enough.

5)As you think,so shall you become.

Refer to the following link for more:

Various facts about Bruce lee,are also predominant in various places of the world. The following link may be helpful:

After the death of Bruce Lee,there evolved a large gap in Hong-Kong film industry,a gap that can never be fulfilled, not even today.Bruce lee was and is the legendary martial artist, who will always be remembered for his valuable contribution to cinema as well as martial arts.He is "Immortal".

Film review of Aurangzeb.

Stories on gangsters and their ruthless crimes, have been a recently adopted trend for film making in Bollywood. However, the concept of identical twins, separated at birth due to some tragedy, and their difference in behaviour arising out of the different circumstances faced by them, followed by their interchanging due to the story line, that results in comical or thrilling situations and confusions,is a not so common plot used by film makers today. This type of plot predominantly used in 80's and 90's,have become extinct today.

Writer and Director,Atul Sabharwal, has mixed the above two plotting concepts of Indian Cinema in an unequal and somewhat unbalanced blend, into this movie "Aurangzeb",backing them with a large and powerfully assembled cast comprising of Arjun Kapoor,Prithviraj Sukumaran,Rishi Kapoor,Sashaa Agha and Swara Bhaskar in lead roles, along with Deepti Naval,Jackie Shroff,Amrita Singh,Anupam Kher and Sikander Kher in supporting roles.

Released on 17th May,2013,Aurangzeb is a Bollywood action thriller film, which executes the ideology of "Good triumphs over evil".The theatrical trailer was released on 3rd April,2013 and was highly received by the audience. But unlikely, the film could not manage to do the same at cash registers and was a decent, above average hit.Lack of realistic concept, too predictable story line, and a large number of previously predictable straight cut twists could not make the film a worthwhile watch.Although, the first half is decent enough, the film loosens very quickly towards the second half, and the end could easily be guessed.

Now,beginning with the review:

Title - The film has a somewhat little uncanny resemblance to the life and policies of the ruthless Mughal Emperor,Aurangzeb and hence the title "Aurangzeb" has been used in a justified manner. However, here I would like to focus on the title of the movie, stating the fact that the title of this movie is interesting enough to grab the audience's attention, without revealing even a bit of the story line that the movie follows.Hence, the title selected by the director is successfully exhibited.

Trailer - The theatrical trailer of the movie, released on 3rd April, showered introduction on the lead characters of the movie, along with a hint of the possible story line that the movie may follow. The trailer introduced a story line involving a family of cops and a family of criminals, and focused on the conflicts between them.In order to bring the criminals down, the cops capture a member from their team, and send his look alike to take his place. However, things don't go as smooth as expected and tables are turned upon one of the families. The main tag line of the trailer was "Kingship knows no kinship".
The trailer was very well received by audience, and crossed 1million views on Youtube in just three days.

Story Line - The story line of the movie,as mentioned at many places above,is quite predictable and the twists that come are also the same.It starts with a family of corrupted police cops or rather collectors (Rishi Kapoor,Prithviraj and Sikander) in Gurgaon, who in order to bring down a real estate Developer, Yashvardhan (Jackie Shroff),capture his son Ajay(Arjun Kapoor),and send his long lost twin brother Vishal (Arjun kapoor again) to take his place and inform the police about Yashvardhan's whereabouts. The main purpose behind this was to restore the lost glory of an honest and dutiful police officer(Anupam Kher), brother of DCP Ravikant(Rishi Kapoor),and father of ACP Arya(Prithviraj),who had protected Yashvardhan's wife and one son, after faking an encounter of them. But,the greedy DCP Ravikant had something else in mind. However, tables are turned when Vishal decides to be with his father, and stops helping the police. Then what follows is a series of traits, deceptions and double crossing, finally letting good triumph over evil.

Acting - Arjun Kapoor,in the double role of Ajay and Vishal, carries out his task well.In both the roles,as the ruthless hooligan and spoilt brat Ajay,as well as his timid counterpart Vishal,he stands firmly. However, his typical mannerism leads to no difference between them in some scenes, especially his typical laughing scene. He needs certain more polish in expressing his emotions.
Rishi Kapoor, after the role of "Rauf Lala" in Agneeepath, does an excellent job again as the main antagonist. The veteran actor has once again proved that in acting,he is not less than any body. The character of the greedy, witty and clever DCP Ravikant has been accurately executed by him.He will be remembered for some heavy one liners, delivered by him at ease.
Prithviraj Sukumaran,Jackie Shroff and Swara Bhaskar, have also done justice to their roles.
Sashaa Agha, the Pakistani singer and actress, daughter of singer Salma Agha, has not much scope of acting in this movie.Roaming around in skin tight minis, coming out of pools in bikinis, and making love to Arjun Kapoor,is what she has to offer in this movie. She has been able to generate the oomph factor required in the movie, and has executed her as a sex kitten.Probably, this is the purpose for which she had been offered a role in the film and so,in a way,she has done justice to her role.
Anupam Kher, has a very little role in the movie, too little for any kind of determination. Sikander Kher,in the role of ACP Dev,an ally of DCP Ravikant, still needs to learn acting and even delivering dialogues. His acting is the most disastrous performance in the movie.
The rest of the cast is just okay.

Music - The music is composed and directed by Vipin Mishra and Amartya Rahut. The music of the movie could not stand up to it's mark and is not at all positively received by the audience.Only the song "Barbadiyaan",sung by Sashaa Agha and Ram Sampath ,seems to be a little popular, that too mainly because of the ample exposure of Sashaa Agha. However,I personally like the song "Jigra Fakira",sung by Keerthi Sagathia. The music scores 6/10.

Pace - The pace of the movie is slow, which adds to it's predictability.Slow pace along with a predictable plot is the main reason that makes the movie uninteresting to watch, specially towards the end.

Go watch it for Rishi Kapoor's stupendous performance,or if you are a die hard Arjun Kapoor or Prithviraj Sukumaran fan.
If you intend to go for the skin show, rather visit Youtube than visiting theatres.
This movie can be given a miss.

Overall,I rate the movie 5/10.

Film review of Aashiqui 2.

In the world of Indian cinema,Love,Romance and Music have an everlasting bond with each other. Each one is incomplete without the other two. This never ending predominant bonding has been re-utilized by Mohit Suri,in the film "Aashiqui 2".With new comers Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor playing the lead roles, this film,a sequel to the 1990 musical block buster "Aashiqui", is a musical drama film, which depicts the journey of two musicians Rahul and Arohi ,which goes through Love, hate, twists, turbulence, success and failure in their lives. The music is composed by Mithoon,Jeet Ganguly and Ankit Tiwari. The film was released world wide on 26th April,2013 and gained mostly positive reviews from critics and was declared a "Blockbuster" by Box-Office.

Beginning with the review:

Poster - The main poster of the movie as well as the soundtrack cover was very well received by the audience. The main poster of the movie is as below:

It clearly portrays the romantic chemistry between the lead pair of the movie.Newcomers Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, have carried out their task well, and they are able to portray the onscreen
chemistry required by them. The poster therefore stands well on it's ground and fulfills it's purpose.
The soundtrack cover of the movie is somewhat similar to a poster of the 1990 movie "Aashiqui",which uses
the idea of lovers under a coat.

This poster was also very well received by audience.Hence, both the posters proved to be attention seeking and established it's purpose.

Trailer - The first teaser of the film was released on 22nd March,2013 and was very well received by the audience. The song "Tum hi ho" grabbed special attention.Unlike other movies, that release theatrical trailers before, this movie chose to release songs before the trailer.Besides, unlike other movies featuring new comers, the teaser trailer as well as the sound tracks were very well received by the audience. The song "Tum hi ho" received immense response from the critics as well as audience and became an instant hit within two days. The other songs of the movie, are also very much popular.

Story Line - The story starts with introducing Rahul Jaykar(Aditya) better known as RJ,an alcoholic, once successful rockstar, who is at a steady decline in his career due to his addiction. But,his addiction has turned into his weakness, and he cannot get rid of it.He accidentally runs into a girl named Arohi(Shraddha),who is a bar singer,at a late night bar and after listening to her voice, decides to help her, boost her career by making her a successful singer. Thus starts a romantic journey of Rahul and Arohi, which passes through many stages in their lives.
However,as slowly the career of Arohi begins to rise, and Rahul himself leads to his downfall, there arises misunderstandings between them. But,Arohi then decides to be with Rahul rather than selecting her career as she truly loves him. This makes Rahul understand that he has become a burden on her,and he kills himself to make her free.
The film ends with Arohi being a successful, established singer, who sees Rahul in the audience, every time she performs. She signs her name as "Arohi Rahul Jaykar" on a fan book, testifying her unsung desire to be Rahul's wife.

Acting - The lead pair of this movie, although new comers, have done their work well. Aditya Roy Kapur,in the role of an alcoholic singer RJ,who falls in love with a simple girl,Arohi, and slowly brings out his own destruction, stands up to his mark.At points of the film, where his emotions are needed to be portrayed,he carries the task well over him.
Shraddha Kapoor,as Arohi,a talented singer, who falls in love with a once famous singer,Rahul, and decides to be with him,in spite of being more successful than him, proves her acting skills explicitly in this movie.
The onscreen chemistry of the lead pair, has come out to be immensely perfect for the movie, and they both are able to testify their skills onscreen as well as provide a breath of fresh air to the audience.
The supporting cast also stands up to the mark.

Music - The music of the film, scores very well. The movie comprises of ten tracks, along with one instrumental track, composed by Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari. The lyrics of most of the songs have been written by Irshad Kamil, and the lyrics of the famous song "Tum hi ho",has been written by Mithoon himself. All the songs of this movie became very much popular along with "Tum hi ho" and "Sun raha hai" topping the charts.
Overall,the music scores 4.5/5.

Pace - The pace of the movie, although slow in some parts,is more or less accurately maintained. From the beginning to the end,the movie is interesting as well as worth watching.Although, the middle portion becomes a little slow, but is overcome quickly in the latter half. The movie is worth remembering for it's wonderful songs,as well as a very purely romantic story line, which is again amplified by the acting and freshness of the lead pair.It is definitely a one time watch,in some cases even more.

Overall,I would rate the movie 8/10.

Reincarnation:Imagination or Reality??

The concept of Reincarnation,so called as "Rebirth" or "Punarjanma" is a widely predominant thought in almost all religions, including some famous ones like Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. It may be defined as the religious or philosophical concept of "Life After Death",which states that after the biological death, although the physical body gets destroyed, but the soul or the spirit begins a new life in a new body, that may be a human, animal or a spirit, depending upon the actions of the previous life,so called as "Karma".It is the Karma that decides, what form of life will the wandering soul grasp to

The word "Reincarnation",originating in Latin, literally means "Entering the flesh again".The Greek equivalent term "Metempsychosis",means "Transmigration of the soul".Another Greek word "Palingenesis",which means
"Being born again",is also said to be it's equivalent. The process of reincarnation, generally focuses on death and then again being born after death. The universal process that gives rise to the cycle of death and rebirth, governed by Karma is called as "Samsara".

Believed to have origins, apparently in the Iron Age(1200 BC),discussions about this subject, have also been found,to have occurred in many parts of India and Greece, apparently in the 6th century BC.Although, the ideas associated with reincarnation, may vary from place to place, accordingly with the beliefs as well as the religions and religious views dominant there, but the central element always remains the same, which states that there is always a life after death and henceforth, death is not an end to life.It may be regarded as a shift of life (Soul) from one physical body to another physical body, which is generally governed by Karma.

The Hindu,Buddhist and Jain concepts of Reincarnation differ in their ideas from each other.According to Buddhism, the art of "Nirvana" or "Enlightenment",is defined as a state of liberation from the limitations of existence.Nirvana is a state that can be obtained in one's life by the right aspiration,Purity of life, extinction of desire as well as elimination of Egotism. So,if a living being does obtain Nirvana,it cannot escape from the cycle of life, death and rebirth. The living being would definitely be reborn into one the six following possible states:
1)Heaven.
2)Human Life.
3)Asura.
4)Hungry Ghost.
5)Animals.
6)Hell.
So,it concludes that no one of us can avoid death, and if we are not being able to free ourselves from the vicious cycle of death and rebirth,we may become doomed to it and it's paradoxical nature of suffering.

Hinduism,on the other hand provides a somehow different idea of approach related to Reincarnation, often called as "Punarjanma".It provides a few reasons for reincarnation mainly:
1)To experience the fruits of one's own Karma.
2)To satisfy one's desires.
3)To complete one's unfinished sadhana.
4)To fulfill a debt.
5)To undergo sufferings due to a great soul's curse.
6)To attain Moksha.

So,it can be seen that the reasons as well as the views,of reincarnation may vary according to the religions but the main idea of Reincarnation due to Karma, remains the same.

Now,the question that arises is:
Reincarnation is just a mere imagination or reality???

Here,I would like to give an example of a girl, named "Shanti Devi",who lived in Delhi,India during the Pre independence era.She claimed to remember events clearly from her past life.Although, several investigation commissions were arranged in order to testify her truth, but finally she had been proved to be a true reincarnation of another woman named "Lugdi Devi",who stayed in Mathura, and had died just ten days after giving birth to her child. This amazing case of Shanti Devi, said to be the most verified and documented case of reincarnation, has gained wide fame since then.Later, she also was the subject matter of many books and television shows. The following picture is of Shanti Devi, when she was an adult:

[This picture is taken from Google, and I have no knowledge of it's correctness]

Many books were also written on her, among which, the most famous one is:

This link may help you for further investigation:

There is also another famous story of a child named James Leininger, whose parents claimed him to be the reincarnation of a pilot named James Huston, who had been shot in his plane, during the World War 2.The following link can be helpful:
The story is believed to be true, for the fact that no proof of deceit was ever found.

Besides, these two, many other stories of reincarnation have also been predominant,in many parts of the world, some of which are believed to be true, because of the same reason as mentioned above.

A debate on the fact that Reincarnation is true or not,can lead to various discussions and controversies, and no end result can ever be achieved.Hence,it would not be wise to take any decision based on one's blind belief. Moreover,it is to be noted that not believing in reincarnation has no relation with being realistic or practical, and besides,in both of the cases, mentioned above, all documentary proofs relate them to be true and hence logically, there is no necessity to disbelieve them. So,I would rather advice all,to be practical in judging a fact, and not get carried away in the pool of prejudices.

This topic of debate, has been spanning across history, and the importance seems to increase as time passes. Hence, based on factual judgements,I myself have come to the conclusion that Reincarnation is true. However, this is my personal opinion, and anyone who wishes to comment for or against it,is always welcome!!!

Twin Towers:A pride of Malaysia.

The twin towers landmark, in New York,United States that represented the original World Trade Center, had been destroyed long back in September 11,2001.They were definitely a pride of United States of America(USA).

But on this point, there is a need in checking the title again!!

Most people will conclude that I have written, the title wrong.Twin Towers, were there in USA,how come Malaysia came in between??
So,do I really need to change the title??

The answer is a big "no".For a clarification, let me assure you all,the title is not wrong. Most of people know that a pair of twin towers, existed in USA.But a few little do know, about the same in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

The Petronas Towers, also called as the Petronas Twin Towers, are twin sky scrapes in the city of Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia. They were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004,and remain the tallest twin building in the world, today.

This post can be regarded as an attempt to open eyes for those who don't know about them!!

Much like the Twin Towers,USA,the "Petronas Twin Towers" are also a pride of Malaysia.Located very near to the Kuala Lumpur Tower, this pair of towers, depict the landmark of Kuala Lumpur.

I personally, had visited Malaysia, about 2 years ago.I had the opportunity of visiting the towers, and getting to see a glance of them. The beauty of the towers is immense. The architectural design is well planned and there are show rooms of almost every possible brand. The visitors are allowed to visit only up to the 41st floor, where there is a sky bridge connecting the two towers, and the beauty of the whole city can easily be seen from that sky bridge.
The night view of the towers would be somewhat like this:

Although, the visit was not for a very long time, but still, ample research after wards, has helped me collect a large amount of info,on the towers, which I am summarizing point wise as below:

1)The towers were designed by famous Argentine American architect Cesar Pelli, who has also designed the
World Financial center complex in Manhattan, quite near to the then fallen,World Trade Center.

2)The 88 floor towers are constructed largely of reinforced concrete, with a steel and glass facade,in order to
resemble motifs found in Islamic Art,thus reflecting Malaysia's muslim religion.

3)Another Islamic influence is the cross-section of towers, based on "Rub El Hizb",the famous Muslim symbol of overlapping squares.

It is then added with circular sectors to meet office space requirements.

4)Officially opened on August 1,1999 by the then prime minister of Malaysia, the towers were built on Kuala Lumpur's race track.

5)After initial construction, the Tower 1 was found to be leaning 25 millimetres off from vertical. However,It was corrected till completion.

6)The office spaces in Tower 2 include a large number of companies like IBM,Huawei,HCL,Microsoft, Reuters and many others.

7)The Tower 1 is fully occupied by Petronas, the famous oil and gas company in Malaysia, and it's subsidiaries.

8)Suria KLCC,is an upmarket retail center at feet of the towers, which includes an art gallery,an underwater aquarium as well as a science center to enhance attraction. Suria KLCC is one of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia.

9)The KLCC park, spanning 17 acres below the building,is furnished with jogging and walking paths,a fountain incorporated with light show,a wading pool as well as a children's park.

10)The lift system is a double decker lift system, with lower deck taking passengers to odd numbered floors, and upper deck to even numbered ones. The total number is 29 for each tower.

11)Additional connecting lifts are also present.

12)The sky bridge is at a height of 170 meter from street level, and the towers are provided with a 5 levels of basement parking.

13)There are 10 escalators,in each tower, and the total no of stairs is 1765 flights.

14)The towers exhibit a wonderful showroom of Clothes and Chocolates, that are famous in Malaysia.

For more info, the following link may be helpful:

Thus, the Petronas Towers are definitely a pride of Malaysia, and form a large part of it's business economy and growth.

Love and Lust:Different but generally Inseparable.

Many a times,I come across topics in magazines, news papers as well as TV shows, which focus on the basic differences between Love and Lust. However, after point wise stating of differences between love and lust, often a question is asked:
Love or Lust??

In Google itself.if you type the search criteria as Love or Lust, thousands of wallpapers, will instantly be displayed. Many people believe Lust to be a vulgar thing, and also conclude the fact that relationships based on Lust, have no significance, and people involving in such relationships have no moral values.Hence,in the long run,it's only Love that counts, while Lust is always said to be the dark side, that makes a relationship vulgar.

Well,if that is the case, then in contrast to all these shitty facts and conclusions,I have a few questions:
1)Whys is then the term "Sex" said to be Divine?
2)Why is sex the only way that facilitates growth of generations?
3)Why has god made sex widely spread across all living things in this world?

Among people who conclude facts as stated like above,no one has an answer to these questions. So,clearly the time has arrived, when we should stop concluding and start thinking.

Let us take a simple example of a coin. The two sides of a coin are always different from each other, and they can never even be alike. But,can a coin be made meaningful without it's two sides? Does a such type of coin even exist?
The answer is plainly "No".
Similarly,in a relationship Love and Lust are just like the two parts of it,which are different from each other, but which can never be separated from each other.Love and Lust together forms a complete relationship. A relationship can never be based on only Love or Lust. Both are necessary for it.A relationship based on just any one of them, cannot be a long lasting complete relationship. It's Infatuation(Both Physical and Mental) that can be based on either Love or Lust.

Imagine, some one having beautiful bollywood actress Yami Gautam,as his girlfriend.Well, what would he do then?
Most will reply that the relationship will completely be based on love, and in case of Sultry actress Mallika Sherawat,it is completely Lust, right?

Absolute bullshit!!

Remember, what they do on screen,is just a world of fantasy,a part of their profession. It depends on the mind set of audience, whether it is good or bad.
However,in real life, one needs to think rationally. No girl or boy can be differentiated according to their looks, skin colour or physique. Pre concept is a dangerous thing. In reality,it's more or less same,i.e. a balance between Love and Lust.

When two people are in a relation, they will have physical desires for each other.May be not at the same time, but they will definitely have. That's not at all wrong or vulgar. In fact, that's quite general and normal.
It s kiddish and immature,to think that only love can form a relationship.

Cougars, one night stands, sexual encounters, are all momentary events, that take place in some people's life. But,that is not included in any kind of relation and can never be treated as one.A relation is somewhat permanent is a person's life, while none of the above are.

Thus,it is predictable, that Love and Lust form a complete relationship. They are different from each other, can never be same, but together running parallel ,can only form a perfect relationship.
So,many people with old aged thinking really need to nurture their thoughts, and think rationally.Only then will they get an answer to this ever controversial questionable fact.

A relation needs trust, mutual understanding, communication, interaction, physical desires as well as sex to survive. In absence,of any of these a relation fails. So,no one can select any one between them and both are equally necessary for all.

Success??????

Today, for a change,I have decided to publish my thoughts on success. The logical definition of success depends upon the perspective of a human being, who perceives it.Many people feel that just working in a big company, doing a lucrative job,and earning more and more money is just what success is.I have seen many people of this kind, who have no desire in their mind.Desire to do something for their own, desire to live life in their own way seems to be something unknown to them. These people cannot lead a satisfied life,as they do not live for themselves. They donate their life to some human power, who according to them, have been given the authority to command and control their life. Thus they themselves become their slaves.
However, there are people of a second kind.People who do not try to be successful. They just pursue their dreams in their own way and don't give a damn to success, and do you know what happens to them? People may think that finally, they will become drug addicts or mentally unbalanced.
But that is completely untrue. They become satisfactorily successful.i.e. success with satisfaction. They do not let themselves get crushed, lead their life in their own ways and also, they are successful.

Let me demonstrate with a short story demonstrating conversation between two friends, through a span of 10 years.

Raj and Subho are two friends, studying in same college. While Raj is a book worm, who always scores high marks,Subho is a painter, who does not study, scores less marks but paints too good.
The first conversation takes place on their final day of college.
11th July,1992:
Raj - "Hey Subho, what will you do now?The college is already over, and you haven't got placed."
Subho - "No clue dude.As per now,I will just enjoy the holidays.Let today be enjoyed and leave tomorrow for tomorrow."
Raj - "Cmon bro.Be practical.Your marks are too less.It will really be difficult for you to get even a decent job in a good company."
Subho - "Fikar nor dost.Someday I will achieve what is intended for me.Till then,no worries. If you follow your dreams,no one can stop you from being successful.By the way,I have been selected for a painting exhibition, which is tomorrow. Can u join in?"
Raj - "I have no time for that.Have my joining in next week. So,am a little busy.Any way, byee for now buddy ,take care. And kindly note that this is not gonna help you in the long run.You will have to be realistic to survive."

10 years pass by.Meanwhile,Raj is the senior software engineer of a company. He is quite successful according to him. But,even his colleagues know how he is continuously tortured by his boss, and how unhappy his married life is.
Then, one day Raj gets an order, for arranging an inaugural ceremony, where a very prominent painter will come. The painter,Subhojit Basak,is a very famous painter.Even,Raj has heard of him,but never seen him.His paintings are very costly, and some even sell at prices of 2 to 2.5 lakhs. He has even received many accolades for his performance, including "International Painter Award" two times.

13th August,2002:
Today is the inauguration day.The painting wrapped in papers,is brought on the stage, and then the painter is called with large applauds. Raj is eager,as he has never had the chance to see the famous painter, whose painting has added value to their company today.
As the painter enters the stage,Raj watches astonished,as his eyes slowly widen up."Subho"-he hears himself saying.
After the ceremony, when everyone was busy taking the autograph of Subho, Raj suddenly goes near him and asks-"Subho,how are you man? Remember me?"
Subho sees him and replies-"Yeah!of course.Long time, huh? So,you work here?".
Raj-"Yes and it is me,who arranged this show."
Subho-"Oh!good work man."
Then, they go into some quiet place, where there is no one to disturb Subho for autographs.
Raj says-"Hey Subho, how did all this happen?":
Subho-"May be it was meant for me.Remember, what I had told you long back.If you follow your dreams, success will definitely follow you.I followed my dreams, and here I am today."
Raj gunderstood his words very clearly. He chose to remain silent.

The story ends here. But,in reality most of people are like Raj. They like to engage in the daily cat and mouse run, rather than following their dreams. They may become rich enough, settled well, but never successful.Deep down, they always remain unsatisfied and frustated.

So,don't give too much energy into executing the normal race.Be different,be unique.Follow your dreams and    dedicate yourself into it.Success will kiss your feet.

Film review of Bombay Talkies.

An Anthology film, also called as a "Package Film",is generally defined as a film that comprises of four to five short films/stories.In some cases, the different stories are shown to be related to each other through a turn of events, which does not happen in some other cases.Sometimes,it even happens so,that the different films are directed by different directors. This in short, can be regarded as the main idea/concept of an anthology film.

Paying tribute to 100 years of Indian cinema,"Bombay Talkies" is an anthology film comprising of four short films, unrelated to each other, each being directed by one among, the four most promising directors of  bollywood- Anurag Kashyap,Dibakar Banerjee,Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar. The four short stories intend to focus on how the lives on common people of all classes and stages of society, are affected by the impact of cinema, and in a way showcases the power of films.

Getting into the review:

Trailer - The trailer of the movie, released almost 3 weeks before the release of the movie, was very well received by the audience. It gave a feel of something different and unique, that is going to be implemented in the movie. The trailer seemed to be the ideal one,for attracting audience to cinema halls,by portraying an environment of dynamic uniqueness. So,for the review of this movie, the trailer needs to be mentioned as a special point.
However, much unlike the trailer, the movie was not so well received by the audience. The pace seems to be too slow, and the interest of the movie also gets lost somewhere in between.

Poster -

The poster as shown above, clearly signifies the fact of this movie, being an anthology film. The poster shows four stories running parallel to each other, each being different and unrelated to the other three. The poster therefore according to me,is up to the mark and somehow establishes it's purpose.

Story Line - The story line follows a sequential order with four short stories running parallel to each other, but shown one after the other. The film begins with the story "Ajeeb Dastaan Hain Yeh",directed by Karan Johar, which focuses on the life of a mismatched couple,Gayatri(Rani Mukerji) and Dev(Randeep Hooda).
The twist in the story comes in form of a young guy named Avinash(Saqib Saleem),who is gay and works under Gayatri. Slowly,Avinash and Dev come closer to each other, bond well and develop feelings for each other, thus revealing, that Dev is also gay. When Gayatri comes to know of this, she banishes Dev from home, setting herself free and realizing the reason for their failed marriage. The story ends in a symbolic way, showing Dev pennyless, roaming on streets, while Gayatri applying make up before the mirror, testifying that she has moved on.A girl child, who begs on the streets singing the song "Ajeeb dastaan hain yeh",in between and during the story, deserves special mention.
The second story, named "Star",directed by Dibakar Banerjee, displays the life of a failed actor(Nawazuddin Siddiqui),who finally stumbles upon a chance to prove himself to the world and more importantly to his daughter. It is inspired from the story"Patol babu-Film star",written by legendary personality,Satyajit Ray.
The third story "Sheila Ki Jawaani",directed by Zoya Akhtar, shows the life of a boy,who after seeing Katrina Kaif dance to the track"Shiela Ki Jawaani, decides to be what he wishes, breaking the norms and rules made by society and even goes against his parents.
The last story "Murabba",directed by Anurag Kashyap, displays the life of Vijay(Vineet Kumar Singh),who in order to fulfill his dying father's last wishes, comes from UP to Mumbai, lives a penny less life, just to make the legendary film actor,Mr.Amitabh Bachchan, eat a half of the murabba, that his father has sent with him.
The pace of the movie is too slow, and the interest seems to get lost somewhere in the middle way.

Acting - Acting by each of the lead as well as the supporting characters,in each of the stories, stands well on their grounds. The casting is appropriate, and each member carries out his work well.To add to the contribution to Indian cinema for completing 100 years, there is a song at the end of movie featuring many superstars of Indian Cinema.Celebrities like Shahrukh Khan,Aamir Khan,Ranbir Kapoor and many have been a part of the song. The song therefore deserves a special mentioning.

Music - The movie has five tracks, among which all according to me,are accordingly adjusted to the situation and the lyrics is too suitable. The opening song and closing song deserve special mention.Music by Amit Trivedi, and Lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and Swanand Kirkire, comes out to be worth while. The pace of music however is slow.

Overall,the movie score 6.5/10.

Film review of Go Goa Gone.

Zombies,so called as the living dead people, who feed on living people and spread the infection with each  bite, have been the base of plot for many hollywood movies. But,in case of bollywood movies, this has happened for the first time with "Go Goa Gone".
Go Goa Gone,is a Zombie comedy movie, directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D K.,with Kunal Khemu, Vir Das,Anand Tiwari and Pooja Gupta in the lead roles, along with Saif Ali Khan, playing the supporting role of a Russian mafia,Boris, who is also shown to be a zombie hunter. The film is definitely remarkable, not for some extraordinary performances or music, but for introducing the concept of Zom-com into bollywood.

Now,beginning with the review:

Poster - The posters of this movie, although not in a detailed way,but still, are somehow able,to depict the main idea, behind the plot of the movie. In one of the posters,Saif is shown to hold a gun in his hand, and below is written the tagline-"I kill dead people".In another, the lead characters are shown through a hole inside a human body. So,in a way,the posters are able to create a thrilling effect and curiosity into the mind of the general audience, which is in fact it's intended purpose. So,the posters stand well on their ground, and achieve their purpose.

Title - The title of the movie, gives a little hint about the story of the movie, but in a very limited way.The main idea, which forms the crux of the movie,is not revealed in the title and hidden in a very commercial way,to attract the audience to cinema halls. Moreover, the title is attractive and attention seeking, which is required for the business of the movie. The title is hence correctly utilized and justified.

Story Line - The story line has a linear sequence, with just a little and clean twist at the end. The story begins with three friends and flat mates,Luv(Vir Das),Hardik(Kunal Khemu) and Bunny(Anand Tiwari),who besides
living together, also work in the same company. Luv and Hardik are not happy with their work, but Bunny on the other side,is quite happy and satisfied with his work. Then,a series of events unfold, which result in Luv getting ditched by his girlfriend, and Hardik getting fired from his job. Then on knowing that Bunny is going for an office work to Goa,they decide to join him and have fun on the trip,as both of them wanted a break. There  Luv meets a girl named Luna(Pooja),who tells them about a rave party to occur at night, organized by a Russian mafia, where a new kind of highly addictive drug is to be launched. Luv,Hardik and Bunny,go there, but are unable to fetch the drug due to it's high cost. However, after the party night, things take a wrong, scary turn, when the effects of the drug result in transforming humans into zombies. Then, begins a cat and mouse chase between the four surviving humans in the island and the zombies. However,Boris,a Russian mafia and zombie hunter saves the day.
The pace of the story is maintained, and the events take place one after other,in a logical way.

Acting - Saif Ali Khan,in the role of Boris,a Russian mafia and a zombie hunter, does get applauds from the audience.Despite being a supporting character,he carries a large part of the film, well over his shoulders.
Anand Tiwari,as Bunny is able to impress the audience. His role of a simple guy,who gets entangled in problems due to his friends, but still decides to help them out of the trouble is well executed by him.
Kunal Khemu and Vir Das,have acted up to the mark in this movie. They could deliver some funny, humorous and witty one liners with ease, but failed to impress in sad or emotional scenes.
Pooja Gupta, mainly used in the movie to generate the oomph factor, was able to give some performance too.Her revealing, tight outfits, which expose ample curves and cleavage, and her sensuous figure, definitely adds value to the oomph factor of this movie and re-establishes her image of a sex kitten. But,on the other hand, she also proves that she has something in her, beyond her body,to offer,in terms of acting and even provides a breath of fresh air to the audience.

Music - The film has five tracks, among which all according to me are situation demanding and refreshing. The track "Khoon Choos le",sung by Arjun Kanungo and Priya Panchal,is a very nice and meaningful song, which describes the life of employees,in a very satirical way.The lyrics of the song is just too awesome. The song "Khushamdeed",sung by Shreya Ghosal,is the best song of this movie.Other two,"Slowly slowly' and "Babaji ki Booti" are also situation demanding and nice to listen to,in a similar way.The last but not the least,is the track"I keel Dead Peepal",which is sung by Saif Ali Khan, himself. This track is also very satirical and hummable. Overall, the music scores 7.5/10.

Effects - Due to this film, being the first ever zombie film made in Hindi movie industry, the effects used were not up to the mark. The zombies do not seem to be too scary, which they should have been, made via make up and effects. The effects had chances to improve. But on a positive note, the walking style of zombies, which has earlier been revealed in many hollywood movies, has been kept intact in this movie too,and each actor performing the role of a zombie, has learnt that specific style of walking, with great determination, which can be seen onscreen. That's quite an appreciable job!!

Points to be noted -
1)It is a little unbelievable, that drugs can convert or transform a human into zombie. So,the concept of introducing zombies appear to be forceful. This part of the whole story seems a little weak.

2)Excessive violence has been used in this movie. The movie does not intend to promote violence in any way.
So,care must be taken.

3)The movie gives a moral of avoiding cigarettes, alcohol and any kind of drugs possible in this world,in order to stay fit and live long.

The movie gets a rating of 8/10.

Film review of Ek Thi Daayan.

Movies on Witches, black magic and witchcraft are not very common in bollywood. However,in this dynamic period of Hindi film industry, where every newly arrived as well as old prominent director is intending to rapidly experiment with his work,in order to come out with something new and appreciable,Ek Thi Daayan surely makes a special mark.Directed by Kannan Iyer,Ek Thi Daayan,is a bollywood horror film, with Emraan Hashmi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kalki Koechlin and Huma Qureshi in lead roles.

Now,beginning with the review:

Title - The main purpose of the title of a movie is to forecast the main idea behind the plot of the movie, thus letting the audience know what the movie is all about. But,on the other side, care is also taken,so that the audience does not come to know too much about the movie. In case of this movie, the title "Ek Thi Daayan", clearly indicates the fact, that the film is based on witches and witchcraft. But,the title does not let the audience know more of the movie.Hence, curiosity is generated and preserved. So,in a way,the title appropriately justifies it's purpose.

Story Line - The story line of the movie is executed more or less sequentially, with little leaps in a few or more parts. The story begins with introducing Bobo(Emraan),a very famous and successful magician and illusionist, who is at the peak of his career, and is planning to get settled, after marrying his beautiful girlfriend Tamara(Huma). But,unknown to even his girlfriend,he is continuously being haunted by voices from his past life.Scary hallucinations about his dead little sister, are casting a dark shadow on his life, threatening his own sanity.Left with no option,he seeks psychiatric help from Dr.Palit(Rajatava Dutta),and is then hypnotized to his distant past, when it all started.
The scene then shifts to his childhood, when after reading from a book,he had accidentally opened the door to hell, thus letting a witch enter into his life. The witch in the form of Diana(Konkona) seduced his father, and finally killed his father along with his sister, who was then only 6 years old,in order to restore her dark powers,on the night of the red moon, which was coincidentally the witch's birthday. But,remembering that the power of a witch lies in her pony tail,Bobo quickly got hold of a dagger, and cut her ponytail. However,on the verge of death, the witch had promised to come back.
The scene then again shifts to present and marks the entry of Lisa Dutt(Kalki),whom Bobo predicts to be the witch. His prediction is turned into belief, when Lisa buys his old apartment, and his girlfriend is seriously injured on the occasion of house warming party.
Then more serious events follow, accompanied by death of Dr.Palit and disappearance of Zubin, adopted child of Bobo and at the climax,it is revealed that Tamara is the original witch and not Lisa. However,Bobo coming to know of his special powers, finally overpowers both Diana and Tamara, thus saving Zubin and there arrives a happy ending for the movie.
Some elements of the story seem to be inspired from the 1968 thriller "Rosemary's Baby".

Acting - Emraan Hashmi proves his worth once again in this movie.A large part of the movie rests on his shoulder, and he successfully carries it.He is surely "The Dark Horse" of bollywood.
Konkona Sen Sharma,in the role of Diana, seems to be too legit. Her facial expressions at some particular scenes are scary enough, may be less due to lack of special techniques, but she is able to portray herself into the shoes of a witch with confidence and ease.
Huma Qureshi,in the role of Tamara,a caring girlfriend, who later turns out to be a witch, does her role surprisingly well enough. However, her witch avatar is not scary enough.
Kalki Koechlin,in a very minor role of Lisa Dutt,is also able to impress.
Rajatava Dutta and Pawan Malhotra in their supporting roles, also score pretty well.

Music - The music of the movie, although does not score too well,is proficient enough. The creepy track at the start and the romantic cum creepy track at the end,are not too hummable, but are able to spread the fear.
The track "Yaaram" seems to be the only hummable track, and the most popular song of this movie. Overall, the music scores 3/5.

Special Effects - The special effects applied in this movie are not up to the mark. There were ample chances of improvement and use of better technology,to create better effects.Neither Konkona nor Huma, seem to be too scary as in terms of being a witch. The thrill is lost someway in between, and the movie becomes just a time pass, towards the end.The Climax also,is not as thrilling and scary,as it should have been.In a nutshell, special effects were not so effective and could be improved.

The movie gets a rating of  7/10.

Film review of Jolly LLB.

Subhash Kapoor, who is generally known for writing as well as directing satirical comical dramas, comes up with another masterpiece work after "Phas Gaye Re Obama",in the name of "Jolly LLB".Based on the 1999 hit and run case of Sanjeev Nanda,,the movie shows the story of a struggling lawyer, who comes to Delhi and as fate has for him in store, takes over a very high profile case involving a hit and run driver. He files a PIL in court against his own idol's case, and thus begins his journey against one of the strongest lawyers in the country. The movie has been executed in a very comical way, shifting to a serious environment whenever necessary, and the humorous touch that it offers, makes the movie more interesting, realistic and lively.

Poster - The movie is a courtroom comedy movie that shows the events taking place inside a courtroom in a very comical and hilarious way.In the main poster of the movie,we come to see two people dressed as lawyers voicing against each other and the blind folded lady representing justice stands between them,in order to separate them. The tagline used is "We Believe in Justice".Although, the poster is a little clumsy, but still it is somehow able to depict the main idea behind the plot of the movie. So,overall the poster achieves success in delivering it's intention to the audience.

Title - The title of the movie clearly speaks about the main plot of the movie, which by all means is related to law and court rooms. The main lead character,so introduced as Jolly(Jagdish Tyagi),is clearly shown to be an LLB,whose actions and decisions form the main crux of the story. However, the director has very cleverly not given any hint of what his probable actions or decisions might be,through the title,in order to draw audience to the theatres.

Story Line - The story starts at Delhi, depicting a night incident, where a car driver fully drunk, driving with full speed, runs the car over a footpath, resulting in death of many street dwellers. The scene then shifts to Meerut, where Arshad Warsi,is introduced as Jagdish Tyagi aka Jolly to the audience. The film then shows, his life as a struggling lawyer and how he faces problems every day.He then decides to move to Delhi,to pursue a better career. There by fate,he takes over the high profile case involving a hit and run driver, against his own idol lawyer,Tejinder Rajpal(Boman Irani).Although,he initially does it for fame and to earn money, but later a series of events, makes him serious and fight the case sincerely. Thus begins his fight for justice against one of the strongest lawyers in the country.

Acting - Arshad Warsi,as Jolly, a struggling lawyer, who fights for justice and in the end appears winner,is able to impress the audience with his acting skills. He also deserves special mention for some funny, witty and humorous one liners, that he delivers with ease in the movie. He is quickly able to change his expressions from comical to a serious one,as to when his character demands.

Boman Irani as Tejinder Rajpal,a high profile greedy lawyer,as well as the main antagonist of the story does his job well.He proves his versatility once again.
Amrita Rao,as Sandhya,Jolly's girl friend and a school teacher, has very little scope of acting. But still she chalks out her role well. Her glamorous and sweet avatar, adds value to her on screen presence.
Saurabh Shukla,as justice Tripathi, does ample justice to his role. The rest of supporting cast,is also well enough and carry their role well.

Music - The music of this film is decent and the movie comprises of five tracks, all of whom are decent up to the mark. The music scores 6/10.

Overall,the movie scores 8.5/10.
