Film review of Bengali movie Shabdo(Sound).

Shabdo,in english meaning "sound" was,is and always will be one of the best films ever directed in the history of bengali cinema. Kaushik Ganguly,a director of bengali film industry,is always known for his direction of different, unique and intensified films which deals with ever unique story lines. This film has marked a big revolution in bengali cinema,by winning the 60th national Film Award for the best feature film in bengali. After
watching this film,I personally felt that had this film not won the award,it would have been really a big insult to the prestigious work of kaushik ganguly as well as all the actors of the film.

Now,I begin to write the review of this film, which perhaps is one of the best films,I have ever seen.

Poster -

The poster of this film as uploaded above, clearly depicts the lead actor Ritwick Chakraborty, who plays the role of Tarak,a sound artist lost in the virtual world of sound effects. It also shows that this problem he faces, goes on increasing with time, thus giving a hint of the possible story line of the movie. The poster clearly emerges a winner in depicting the idea of sound making as well as a unique problem faced by tarak, the lead character and a sound artist or foley artist.

Title - The main subject matter of the movie is sound and a very unique problem faced due to sound,by the lead character,Tarak. Tarak played by Ritwick Chakraborty, was a sound artist who gradually gets lost in the world of recreation of sound effects. So,the main matter of the movie is displayed in the title, which therefore executes it's purpose. The title hence is justified.

Story Line - The story line of the movie,as expected to be,accordingly with the works of Kaushik Ganguly, is unique, interesting as well as seat grabbing, which will make you go to the cinema halls and watch the movie till the end.It focuses on Tarak,a foley artist who gradually gets lost into the world of virtual sound amplification. He slowly becomes numb towards human voices and begins to focus more on the recreation of sound effects of his sorroundings. Director kaushik Ganguly, brings the problem out with justification, and also signifies a solution, out of this situation in a very unique way. So,the story line deserves 10/10.

Acting - All the actors did a wonderful job in this movie. Ritwick Chakraborty seemed to be the ideal cast for Tarak, without whom Tarak was impossible. He was efficiently able to bring out the problem faced by the foley artist with his acting skills. His expressions seemed to be so good and suiting to the scenes.
Raima Sen,who played Tarak's wife, had not much chance to prove herself. In spite of that, she was able to bring out the sad, realistic wife who is helpless at her husband's condition but finds no way to save him.
Churni Ganguly and Victor Banerjee did their work well.Even Srijit Mukherji, who is professionally a director
did an excellent acting in this movie. Kaushik Ganguly in a special appearance role, also carried out his work well.Overall, the acting by each was fabulous.

Music and Sound effects - Although the movie has no songs, but still the background music scores evenly.
At many parts of the film, the background music plays a very significant role and takes the movie forward.
The sound effects are too awesome, influencing as well as adding value to the acting of Ritwick. In many scenes, the sound effects made the audience understand the problem of Ritwick as well as give idea about how sounds effects are recreated in studios.

Direction - The direction of Kaushik Ganguly,at par or even more ahead of his previous works was,is and will always be very much appreciated. He could easily bring out an unique problem related to sound and also suggested a solution, that too in a very unique way.The award received by the film was obviously deserving for it and had the film not being given the award,it would have been really sad.The arrangement of scenes in a logical way, back ground music, stunning sound effects, casting as well the unexpected climax was too good of the work of the director. His direction gets a deserving 10/10.

Pace - The only thing lagging in this movie was pace. The film seemed to be too prolonged, getting into details of every moment and every situation. The pace of the movie was definitely too slow. Some scenes could be easily edited out of the movie or shortened to co-operate with the reel time.Instances of the same problem were repeated many times, out of which, all according to me were not necessary. It may have been used to signify the impact of the problem faced by the lead character, but made the reel time much prolonged. However,on the contrary, the climax at the end was not only unexpected but also stupendous. It added improvement to the pace of the movie as well as made the audience clap in the director's favor.

Overall,the movie gets a rating of 9/10.
